Redact PDF

Draw a box over anything that should not be there — or search for a phrase and have every occurrence found for you. bakepdf paints the box and then rasterises the affected pages, so the text underneath is destroyed rather than hidden behind a rectangle that copy-paste walks straight through.

How to redact PDF

Paid plans · runs in your browser
01

Drop in the document.

02

Draw over what has to go, or search for a phrase to catch every occurrence.

03

Apply. The affected pages are flattened, so the hidden text no longer exists in the file.

Questions people actually ask

How is this different from drawing a black rectangle?

A black rectangle is a drawing on top of text that is still in the file — select it, copy it, paste it, and there it is. Redaction here removes the text layer of the affected pages entirely, which is the only way a redaction actually holds.

Does the page stay searchable?

The redacted pages do not — that is the price of doing it properly. Pages you did not touch are left exactly as they were.

Do you keep a copy of my file?

No. Redact PDF runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly and the Canvas API — the bytes of your document never travel to us. The only thing that reaches our servers is a counter incrementing by one, and whatever you deliberately choose to save to your library.

Is Redact PDF free?

Not this one. Redact PDF is part of Baker, at $10 a month — along with the other conversion, compression and security tools, and the AI ones. Signing, editing, watermarking, merging, splitting, rotating, organising and cropping are free, three documents a day up to ten pages each, with no account.
